Hidden Rome: Oratorio del Gonfalone between secret concerts and frescoes
Start a journey through frescoes, music and symphonies, in a place in Rome still secret...
We are at the Oratorio del Gonfalone, a hidden jewel of the Eternal City that undoubtedly represents one of the masterpieces of Italian Mannerism as well as an unmissable piece of religious history. The Oratorio del Gonfalone overlooks one of the most interesting streets of the historic center of Rome and is a true oasis of peace, culture and leisure.
Inside there are precious paintings depicting the stories of the Passion of Christ - a series of 12 wonderful frescoes work in fact, of the main exponents of Mannerism.
Besides art, however, an important space is dedicated to music the Oratory hosts, in fact, the concerts of the Roman Polyphonic Choir, even more exciting and evocative in the months of the Christmas holidays.
Little curiosity: the Oratorio del Gonfalone is also the location where some scenes from the TV show "The Young Pope" of Paolo Sorrentino were shot.
It is a place still outside the mass tourism of the capital, perfect for art lovers or for those who want to escape from the ordinary.
The guided tours last about 50 minutes and are very interesting, held by the art historian Francesca Macera.
